  • More importantly, PC has significantly more and better exclusives. Factorio, Dwarf Fortress, Ostranauts, and Squad off the top of my head that I’ve been playing lately. There are so many incredible games, frequently that are $20-40, that will never be on a console. They’re never advertised as “PC exclusives” because there’s no marketing budget to push that stupid concept, but they are. People always talk about which console to buy because they have better exclusives, but any reasonable person would choose a PC if they cared about that.

  • They’re only halting sales. My guess is they’re going to make the switch to F2P. It’ll take time to build and rework the systems for that though, so they’re taking it offline while they do it. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. From the article: “at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.” That implies it’s at least not dead for good.

Still, not interested in it at any price really. It looked super generic. That market is crowded with good competitors so they need to do something new to stand out, not just copy what others have done.

  • The game delayed at least three times I believe, for several months each time. They weren’t being rushed. They missed deadline after deadline and still weren’t where they needed to be, so I’m assuming Paradox saw this as the core being broken and canning it, instead of just throwing more money into that hole. I can’t really blame them either. Everything we saw looked janky and not good. That was pre-release content of course, and I was still hopeful there was something worth it in there, but Paradox must not have.

  • Were people angry because it was low or high? I’d give it a lower score personally, though I’ve still seen some people argue it’s a perfect game

I’d say it deserves a perfectly mediocre 5. Everything it does is better in other games, and the one thing it’s supposed to do (exploration) is better in their other games. I live sci-fi so I was willing to overlook a lot of issues, but I think the biggest letdown is that the sci-fi stories it tells are boring as hell and don’t actually make use of the genre. If they really wanted to make a sci-fi game they should have been ready to tell interesting sci-fi stories. Instead they gave up all the strengths of their other games to tell uninteresting stories.
