Before clicking I already assumed microsoft and sony were going to be named as options, who are arguably worse companies. While Nintendo is doing shitty stuff, I don’t see the equal uproar against the other companies. My only assumption is Nintendo’s strict stance against emulation is clashing with lemmy’s pirate culture.

Another big thing for me is that I’ve worked on computers as part of my job for the last 15yrs. The last thing I wanted to do was come back home to sit again at a computer chair on another computer. Now that I work remotely, there is even less of a separation of my life since I am in my office a lot. I mentally can’t have my work station also be my gaming station, it’s just not healthy for me, I’d never move from the same place. Maybe one day when one of my laptops is old I’ll finally install steam, but for now having a switch and ps5 works wonders for the separation.
Oh, I spent a lot of time in there, thinking I’d find more than another mini abandoned mine site or yiga lair. The most interesting thing was the yoga boss fight. The underworld portion could have probably been turned into a really great post game idea if they had spent more time on it.
I do think Botw and Totk would have benefited from having the map 50% smaller to condense the content. The underworld in Totk basically ended up just being collecting DLC armor from the previous game.
This is honestly what also happened to me. I did not finish the DLC.
I don’t remember the vitriol being as consistent on reddit. On a larger scale here, if it’s a computer, it needs to be Linux or you’re downvoted. If it’s video games, it needs to be a PC or they don’t want to hear about it. Even Steam that was generally loved on Reddit gets some flack, because GOG is more DRM free from what I can tell (I don’t game on PCs)
Lemmy is the wrong place to mention Nintendo. You will get obliterated by people.
I must say, the games is one of the few reasons I still pay for Netflix. But I had a similar reaction when certain games were locked behind Apple Arcade, so I understand the sentiment.
I can’t wait until I can buy Kingdom Hearts The Final Mixed Series in 10yrs will all the games on one disc… though who am I kidding, physical media will be gone by then.
No different than people being into star trek, star wars, a song of fire and ice, DC or Marvel lore. People like stories they can converse over. Timelines are yet another piece to talk about.
I’m sure the fact that Braid is also on Netflix games didn’t help. I assume most people with a netflix account have access to play it on their phones.
They have a lot of good stuff. Dead Cells, Hades, Into the Breach , Death’s Door, Oxenfree 1 & 2, and probably others I am forgetting.
It’s also on Netflix games, even less of a reason for people to spend money on it.
Average viewer: They must call it Horizon, because the monsters are always off in the distance on the horizon!
I can’t imagine they’d put the money behind it. It would either need to be game of thrones money, or you’d just see robots in the pilot and finale.
This piqued my interest. I’ll wait for the reviews. I didn’t think I’d enjoy Dead Cells, but it quickly became a favorite.
I’m really surprised they went with Shadow instead of Metal Sonic. Thematically Metal Sonic fits with all the Robotnik arsenal happening in the stories. Shadow is more at the forefront of stuff now, so I guess that’s why. I assume Shadow will be good by the end of it, similar to Knuckles, and the final boss may still end up being a version Metal Sonic maybe?
I think for me it’s a combination of the “time” people are mentioning, but also boredom. When you’re younger, everything is new. When you’re older you start noticing the repeating patterns in media. It’s the reason I also stopped watching anime. If I play a game now, it has to really be something that new that will hold my attention, outside of a couple of franchises. Outer Wilds for example, blew my mind.
