For my PC I prefer headphones for the immersion. When on the Steam Deck, I use in ear buds. I have a handful of Apple ear pods I’ve amassed over the years that I’ll use when I’m trying to get some quick gaming in. If I get a chance to really sit down and game for an hour or more, I use my JBL Quantum TWS with the USB C receiver. Total immersion, excellent sound quality, noise canceling, and incredible latency. Battery life could always be better, but they’ll comfortably get me through a solid gaming session on the Deck.

I don’t use the speakers on my Deck at all. I probably should play some games with it and see how I like it.

Get the original on GOG without DRM or forced PSN.

There’s the official Jellyfin app for Apple TV. It works very well with only minor UI bugs when browsing libraries. Nothing that detracts from or reduces the quality of the service.

Oh yeah definitely. Haven’t played it in probably 20 years so it’s about time I revisit it and remember the legend.

I only remember bits and pieces but so far it’s fun. I’ve only gotten past the first boss and Frog left my party.

I think you’d be fine just repasting whatever card you go with. My spouse has an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3, and I have an MSI RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio. Both cards have been fantastic for us. If I stick with Nvidia, I might try a different brand but so far I’ve been very happy with MSI.

I have no experience with AMD cards, but I’ve heard that Sapphire is highly regarded, probably great like EVGA.

Intel I don’t trust yet, so I’ll wait before I consider their Arc cards.

They were one of my favorites over 20 years ago. I played many of their games: Splinter Cell, Beyond Good & Evil, Child of Light, Assassin’s Creed. I never played Far Cry, Prince of Persia, or got heavily into Rayman, but they certainly did make many gems.

Then somewhere around 10-15 years ago, they enshittified.

Now they’re an evil and anti-consumer corporation. I don’t buy their games anymore, which is a shame because I’d love the Beyond Good & Evil remaster and the upcoming sequel. I’d love to play Immortals Fenyx Rising. But their track record shows they will only release games that are: “safe” copy-and-paste games, not innovative, unoriginal, loaded with micro transactions and predatory telemetry, and equipped with DRM and kill switches.

Why purchase and play Immortals Fenyx Rising when in 10 years they’ll just take it away from me? Such a shame. I won’t participate in Ubisoft games anymore unless they course correct (read: They will never course correct).

I walked into this game not knowing much, and the simple premise hooked me. Played it and loved the time I spent with it. Absolute gem of a game. Story was good overall, the voice acting was fantastic, and the gameplay loop was short enough to allow me time to play it in short bursts when I had time.

I own most of my games on GOG these days. I still lease my games on Steam on occasion, because I do love the ecosystem and that my spouse can play my games easily.

But now I’m thinking of the end game. One day after Gabe steps away from Valve and appoints his replacement, that replacement will also need to step away. Eventually, Steam will go public, and their vision will change.

For now though I’m not too worried about Steam, but it does make me reconsider where I buy my games from. Ever since Ubisoft had that server shutdown notice a few years ago that would have rendered some of my digital DLC for my physical disc of Splinter Cell Blacklist on Wii U unplayable, I’m now very cautious about ownership of all my media.

My favorite Zelda. I need to revisit this one.

True. I didn’t think about it, but I guess that should have been obvious since 2230 isn’t a common standard - manufacturers won’t spend for that.

Meanwhile, i’ve had lots of WD drives without any issues. And some of my SSDs are TLC and QLC (before I knew about QLC longevity). I can’t imagine I’ll go wrong with these upcoming SN770 drives.

I decided to bite the bullet and preordered two 2 TB SSDs, which release officially next Friday on Sep 22nd. I haven’t used a Steam Deck, but the two Steam Decks I ordered just arrived today for my spouse and I (yay!). They’re a gift for us next month, so I’ll install them next month and have impressions by then.

While doing research, I only found that there was an SN740 model from WD that was only sold in some regions that Steam Deck users were using. People were happy with it so I figure the higher spec model is probably fine to use. So far though, I only know the SN770 is TLC NAND and basically similar to the published Corsair MP600 specs. I’d love to get my hands on MLC or SLC, but I don’t think it exists for that capacity (nor would it be affordable). My guess is by the time an affordable MLC or SLC arrives in 2280 config, Steam Deck 2 will be out and probably use a more common SSD form factor.
