I haven’t been able to play it entirely blind, which is a flaw, but it has led me to view this gameplay more as a form of authorship. You save scum and you try again because that’s not the story you’re trying to tell. I don’t save scum games that are less storylike, because the game is traditionally the gameplay. With tabletop RPGs, the story is the game. This is an interesting middle ground.
Good. Let this one marinate. The modding community has barely begun to show what’s possible with this game. Over time, all this will only feed the appetite for similar quality, and hopefully make a dent in industry trends.
I tend to prefer indie games, cult classic series like armored core, and a few big mainstream titles like Mario kart and breath of the wild. How much time I put into games depends not on what “kind” of gamer I am so much as whether I need more out of it. I’ve only played Undertale twice through, but it had a big impact on me and at the end I had enough to take with me. If I feel like I’ve lost those impressions I might go back to that well after a long while. Right now I’m going back to a few of my old PS2 games to see if there’s more for me to draw from them. They’re like old books you reread with new eyes.
On the other hand I’ve put hundreds of hours into darkest dungeon and slay the spire, and I’ll probably continue until I’ve gotten to a point where I feel like I’ve overcome my limitations in a meaningful way. Those games are about dynamic challenges and perseverance at any cost, which resonates with me on a deeper level.
Games are art, or should try to be, and how long you spend with them depends on your relationship with them.
The mainstream view has lost a lot of that spirit, but plenty of Americans go just as hard as the French. Our corporate media downplays or slants the perception of protestors to make them seem like a noisy misguided minority when all we’re usually asking for is basic dignity.
Then the news media goes off and makes any anti-protest vehicular homicide a celebrity, and right wing nuts flock to their go fund me pages.
It’s not that we’re as bad as we look, mostly.
The Canadian GameStop folks have a community on lemmy.ca, but we are still very few.
I would like to join a federated wsb community too, if there’s anyone with any integrity willing to run it impartially. Anyone running such a place has a conflict of interest imo, the tendency is moral hazard. At least with single stock communities you know their motive.
Crazy to hear people talking about this stuff out in the wild. Feels like I’m on superstonk, only place I tend to hear anyone connecting these dots.
I’m only an hour in, but I’m getting masterpiece vibes
