GustavoM@lemmy.worldto Self-hosting@slrpnk.net•Raspberry Pi 5 vs Intel N100 mini PC comparison - Features, Benchmarks, and PriceEnglish3·1 year agoNo one would want to buy this to use with high-demanding applications, but for hobbies and trivial stuff. With that said, even a Orange pi zero 3 is “better” than both Rpi 5 and the n100.
tl;dr: The magic word is convenience.
Docker + nextdns image that i built.
GustavoM@lemmy.worldto Self-hosting@slrpnk.net•SolarPi experiment 2: Finally something that worksEnglish1·2 years agoThat is very impressive! And thank you very much for those tips. Oh, and mine tends to sit around 2.3W… and that is with over_voltage at 5, and both min and max cpu values at 1500 while running a couple things 24/7 (docker, a live stream on ffplay, pihole.)
GustavoM@lemmy.worldto Self-hosting@slrpnk.net•SolarPi experiment 2: Finally something that worksEnglish2·2 years agoCare to share one of those things? Because I’ve got a rpi 4 and I’d love to hear some “under-the-sleeve” tricks to make my rpi 4 a bit more happier than it already is.
GustavoM@lemmy.worldBanned from communityto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What backup service do you use?English1·2 years agoEh…you’ve got a point there. Then again, there is always pendrives and other extremely small devices where you can copy your (mostly important/crucial) files in and carry it along with your house/car keys or something like that.
GustavoM@lemmy.worldBanned from communityto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What backup service do you use?English5·2 years agoAs dumb/simple/boring as this may be…? An external hard drive.
…
…what? It doesn’t require you to be online 24/7, works at any™ PC, and the speed is really great – even on a potato.
Unless you work at NASA or at IBM or similars – then feel free to call me dum.

fbi = rpi 4 with docker + pihole + 2x unbound

And two of my containers (cmatrix, btop) are at the #1!English1·2 years agoAn “average” cmatrix uses around 7.6 MiB of memory and 2.5% ~2.7% of cpu on the same Rpi4.
t. Got a rpi 4 right to my left. It runs 24/7, so it takes a few keystrokes to test.

Kind of a “self-flex”, but one of the “#1 container” I mentioned in the OP, cmatrix (should have said image, I was way too sleepy when I posted this, but eh) uses less than 1% of the CPU and exactly 486kb of RAM (and that is on a RPI 4), so yep… pretty sure any PC (and I -REALLY meant to say ANY) will have 0 issues running those tiny, “waste of resources” apps. :^)
GustavoM@lemmy.worldBanned from communityto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are your most used selfhosted services?1·2 years agoBlocky, unbound, and btop (which is not related to self-hosting, but its low memory plus cpu usage can be really handy on low power devices.)
