it’s a console launched 5 years ago with no new revision, it was unattractive for €500 in 2020 and it’s even more unattractive for €600 in 2025, if they want to move more units they should lower the prices, not increase them. With this price people can get a real PC with better performance, where you don’t need to pay a subscription to play online. And there are no cool “must have” exclusives like the ps5 or the switch, so the premium is not justified.

Except for federation, you described Notesnook, although it’s a bit hard to self host because the server parts are in alpha with few documentation. I wanted to try it but it looked too complex (hard to backup and hard to maintain) with all those server components, mongodb in a replica set and S3
For self hosting, why e2ee? It makes backups much more complicated than having plain text/images on the server. Consider making it optional 😊
Privacy? I’m sure that Google tried so hard to monetize it and after so many years they didn’t found a way, couldn’t use it for ai training too, so they decided to turn it off and save millions in database costs.
They still exfiltrate user movements for improving Google maps, it’s just that they don’t need to keep them indefinitely or for years or maintain a nice interface for that
