  • Important info:

-The breach window was roughly 1:30 PM-2:30 PM Eastern (1830-1930 UTC+0) on 12/25.
-Downfall is safe to launch once more, and has been since roughly 2:30-2:40 PM Eastern on 12/25 (1920 UTC+0 on 12/25).
-If you did not launch Downfall in the breach window, you’re clear.
-If you got an automatic update for Downfall on 12/25 but did NOT launch, you’re clear.
-If you launched Downfall via the Steam Workshop (meaning you actually launched Slay the Spire), you’re clear.
-If you did launch Downfall on 12/25 and succeeded and everything looked normal, you’re clear.
-If you did launch Downfall on 12/25 and saw a command-prompt like screen, that starting spitting out a bunch of text after about 10 seconds, you’re in the clear. That was actually just the Java log which we usually keep hidden, but accidentally left visible when we restored the game.
-If you did launch Downfall on 12/25 and got a ‘no .exe found’ type of error, you’re clear. That was us exploding the game to prevent anyone else from being affected.
-If you did launch Downfall on 12/25 during the breach window and got a Unity library installer popup, please continue to read. You may be also at risk.

  • That said, I’ll usually always play a male character in a Souls title, because [insert valid reason for inconsistency here.]

I often do this when I want the character to mesh with the build. If I’m playing a character with a great shield and giant hammer, I’ll want a big beefy character that is often easier to create in game as a male body. And when I play a quick assassin, I often pick female. It’s like the opposite of how anime weapons work.

FYI: as someone I think would like incongruent in girl mode, I went as Dr Frankenfurter (creation scene, was cold) for Halloween this year and went all out: full makeup, fishnets, shaved legs, 4" platform heels, etc. It was very fun and could be a good entry into what you might want to do. Also: you can always dress up at home just for yourself.

  • I play in 2 games and run 1. As a player I play both characters who share my gender and one that doesn’t. At the table I run there’s a guy who plays a woman, and used to be another.

It’s never caused issues or confusion. So for anyone interested in playing like this, feel free to do so! For pronouns I’ve also found success in referring to characters instead of players with names unless explicitly talking to the player, but that’s easier as a GM.

  • I don’t relate with masculine characters at all. No idea why as I don’t identify as a woman. I have very little association or ownership of my gender.

Also character creators traditionally don’t have a ton of options beyond the binary. Hair, pronoun options tend to be most of the extent.

Also feminine bodies tend to be more interesting. More curves and interesting shapes while a lot of masculine bodies are rendered as blocky.

  • So…what do you do in this game? We’ve seen movement and very basic NPC interactions. Building entire or part of buildings automatically. But that’s it. They mostly just showed off pretty, but almost entirely empty landscapes.

They are also doubling down on procedural generation. I hope they learned from NMS that procedural generation can be useful but only if there are interesting things to do that get generated. If you generated the same set of boring landmasses, there’s no point. I saw nothing in this trailer remotely new.

Also their trailer’s text was hot garbage. “A fantasy earth”. No shit, really? No one would have got that from the fucking dragons.
