My cheap ass TV from 2019 is 55 inches. How much is a 55 inch monitor? Or a 65 in monitor if I want to upgrade to a bigger size in the future?

I’d honestly rather pay prostitutes. I’ve never done that, but seems better value for money if you value your time as much as money (and I personally value it more)

In comparison, Steam has asked me to re-login like 3 times over the last 7 or 8 years I’ve used it (I used to be an active hater and only had it for HL2 and claiming the free games like Portal).
boonhet@lemm.eeto Games@sh.itjust.works•Tim Sweeney doesn't hold back: if you think the Epic Games launcher is bad, it's because it isEnglish5·2 months agoI’ve given up on the free games. I’m sure some are great, but I have enough of a backlog on Steam, I don’t need more indie games. Plus I may as well pay for indie games - it’s the AA and AAA games I want to grab for free.
Now they still have some great AAA games every now and then that I would actually like to grab for free, but due to how much stuff they put out that isn’t interesting to me, I’ve given up looking at it. Doesn’t help that I have to re-login every time, regardless of whether I’m using EGS or Heroic (which is a way better launcher and the one I have installed right now).
At this point I think I need to invest some time in getting an RSS client set up and getting notifications for EGS free games and other things I enjoy that I keep forgetting about. I guess I had notifications when I had the EGS client installed on Windows and it ran on the background, now I only fire up Heroic when I realize it exists.
Edit: No idea why I didn’t do this sooner, I already have Akgregator installed and found this rss feed for free games from a reddit comment. It’s a Steam community and posts games from several sources, including Epic.

If anyone does miss it, they’re a lost cause anyway IMO

I have few enough users that a bit of setup isn’t a huge issue. No way I’d want to expose it completely publicly, same with any other home servers I run.
The public availability without open ports is indeed a strength of Plex.
boonhet@lemm.eeto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•That's all folks, Plex is starting to charge for sharingEnglish3·2 months agoWhat’s missing from Jellyfin for you?
I’m going to migrate over soon personally. I canceled my plex pass instead of upgrading to lifetime a few months ago because I felt like Plex was going to go down enshittification alley soon. I haven’t used Jellyfin much though, so not sure what to expect at this point. I don’t have a lot of users luckily
In seriousness, I think gaming has LESS pressure from past titles because while classics still get played decades later, many games don’t even work on a modern operating system and many are so janky that you can instantly tell they’re old. Games often don’t age well. You could argue that the same happens for other media but IMO games depreciate more because of the technical aspect.
No, books written before April 2025 are already trash and who’s gonna rewatch an old movie or listen to 80’s music nostalgically?

Good winter tires do so much more for you and RWD gives you more control than FWD at least.
AWD doesn’t help you brake better unfortunately.

Supposedly the team left OwnCloud and forked it. So the value is that the OCIS team will be working on OpenCloud in the future.

Their sortable category ratings are just awesome though. Have a big home? Go look at routers and sort by rating for multi-level home or large home.
boonhet@lemm.eeto Technology@beehaw.org•Overblown quantum dot conspiracy theories make important points about QLED TVs3·3 months agoSony and Philips are the top tier lately as far as I know. LG has been doing weird things and Samsung hasn’t actually been good on the high-end for a long time. Or maybe it’s coming back now with the QD-OLED displays? Because the original “QLED” absolutely felt like deceptive marketing, as “QLED” looks so similar to “OLED”. Then there’s the whole ads thing on Samsung. Idk if LG does this.
So chances are, you made a pretty good choice. Sony’s a reliable company generally.
boonhet@lemm.eeto Technology@beehaw.org•Overblown quantum dot conspiracy theories make important points about QLED TVs18·3 months agoNot OP, but rtings seems good to me. They’re not afraid to mention when a new model is actually inferior to it’s predecessor and they have standardized scoring for multiple product categories. Downside is limit of free reviews per month, but I’ve never needed more than they allow.

Germans specify 12-15k nowadays and they run much tighter tolerances.

And that’s my main problem with what the industry has become. Nvidia always had sizable jumps generation to generation, in raw performance. They STILL get better raw performance, but now it’s nowhere near impressive enough and they have to add their fake frame technologies into their graphs. Don’t get me wrong, they always had questionable marketing tactics, but now it’s getting even worse.
No idea when I’m replacing my 3060ti, but it won’t be nVidia.
