The more reflection I give it the better DA2 is and the worse Inquisition is. DAO was a good turn based with pause of its era but it was 2 that was the best. My biggest problems with 2 are that it wasn’t finished (I want the Sera it was supposed to have not the one inquisition gave dammit) and Isabella’s lack of survivability/force mage just sucking. Meanwhile Inquisition fucking attempted to rehabilitate Cullen… and it had no Isabella or Merrill
This conversation is enlightening to me. See I just always assumed business people understood how engineering works, but were being obtuse to keep us on track or were just looking at the financial spreadsheets. But no it seems some people genuinely don’t understand that sometimes you spend a lot of time on things whether or not it goes anywhere because if you don’t you don’t develop any products or solutions.
If I owned a multimillion dollar company, probably yeah. There’s a limit but for a groundbreaking company the RCA labs are more a warning of “but they actually have to complete projects at some point and have direction” than a “everything needs to be rigidly directed”.
“Hey I have an idea for something I’d like to exist” is quite possibly one of the best things a business owner can hear out of an R&D engineer’s mouth. You provide oversight in accordance with the risk factors established by your financials, business plan, and how good of an idea it is. But if a bunch of them like it as a product that’s a good sign.
I never would’ve expected a handheld console that could comfortably play Baldurs Gate 3 on an airplane. I got it for indie games, but it’s expanded beyond that for me

As an American I’ve never been a target of gun violence, but every once in a while (maybe once a year tops) I hear that telltale crack when I’m not in the best of places and I have to skedaddle. I’ve never been in a mass shooting, but I’ve mourned too many. I’m not living in constant fear of them, but I’m exhausted by how many happen.

Exactly, also making good games consistently gets you fans. I’ve been a fan of the company that made Hades since I got their first game in a humble bundle. A lot of people got into their second game. Their third was fine. But if they hadn’t had a reputation for making great games (and I don’t think Bastion or Transistor was the most marketable game) I don’t think Hades would’ve blown up like it did.
So yeah the dev needs to learn to better market, keep marketing, and keep making games that build loyal customer bases.

I wouldn’t say it’s always had a ton of queer characters. The first game had a few bi characters and some transmisogynistic depictions of sex workers, the second had a bunch of bi characters and some transmisogynistic depictions of sex workers, and the third game had a few bi characters, a gay man, a well written trans man, and some lesbian characters written by someone who clearly hates lesbians.
But yeah you’re describing what I expected.
