i had a similar thought when i used to spend most of my time on .world and felt that the lemmyverse was lacking where reddit was overflowing.
i haven’t felt that way since i’ve switched instances and found more content than i could ever finish reading/watching/learning from other lemmy-ites.
thank you for that
no reddit diaspora sites has ever survived and no instance on the lemmyverse has the critical mass of users necessary to recreate reddit’s subreddit communities.
the people looking for a reddit alternative will leave and .world will become like any other instance after .worlders start to miss the niche content enough.
they already have plenty of support; but if that’s the only way to contribute then i’ll do it.
is it?
i want to contribute to .ml and minimize how much of my effort goes to .world or .shitjustworks; i think my IT experience would be more beneficial to this end.
i’m a software engineer and i’ve worked in IT for 15 years before that. i’d like to pay back how much i’ve been enjoying .ml
how can i help?
watch out for your battery.
i don’t do proxmox; but i do a lot of virtualization through kvm/qemu on my own laptop and the battery can take a beating if you don’t mitigate it somehow. i’ve had this laptop less than 6 months and the battery condition is already at 67%.
i’m lucky in that i got this laptop from a linux company so i can can order replacement batteries; but most people don’t (willingly) have this luxury anymore.
I loved the building, but I find the other half of the gameplay quite boring.
i would spend hours using cheats to create the perfect house for the sims family and then lose interest within 30 minutes of letting the family do its thing.
i would rinse and repeat with each house becoming more elaborate and strange each time; they should make a game that focuses on that aspect of it more
thank you for doing this; lemmy has been a godsend for me and it’s turned me into a donor and i’ll start contributing eventually.
