There seems to be no argument about what is conscious that doesn’t have a substantial human-centric bias. So many of the criticisms of chat gpt are present in people who cant list hordes of facts they once read or make up stuff whole cloth. The other large class of critique is based on knowing how it works, which is fundamentally not an aspect you can use to make judgments about emergent behavior.

It will take a very long time for people to believe and trust AI. That’s just the nature of trust. It may well surpass humant in always soon, but trust will take much more time. What would be required for an AI designed bridge be accepted without review by a human engineer?
Agreed. Its a more impactful on software than physical engineering (untill robots can build more arbitrary objects) but that is my point, implementation is only a small part of the job.

It will shift a lot of human effort from generative to review. For example the core role of an engineer in many ways already is validation of a plan. Well that will become nearly the only role.

Agreed, this is actually the use case for a blockchain. Intances should produce documents attesting to the quality of other instances. This would allow each instance to construct white or black lists off thes data and propogate info on bad actors or new quality servers. It would be decintalized, consistent and signed.
There is a number of blockchain attempts to do this already. Because they are servers, it should work well here.
