Emulation still exists though. And the fan games are made by and for Nintendo fans. They usually also want to play the new Nintendo games as well, not just the fan games. And those fan games wouldn’t exist without the Nintendo games they’re inspired by. I mean, I guess if you only play old Nintendo games or fan games based on them, Nintendo disappearing could be good. But I would bet that there are many more people who want to play Nintendo’s new games, and will want to play the ones that are released in the future, than people who only want to play old ones/fan games.

I agree that they can fuck off with the patent thing. I’m not trying to defend their actions. Also yeah, if someone buys a pokemon game after not liking the previous one, then cries about it being bad, that’s on them. But not all of them have played one of the bad ones before. Although I guess if you don’t research before you buy, you can’t be too surprised. Also you have to keep in mind that the people complaining about the pokemon games online aren’t the majority of the people buying it. Most people buying them just want a pokemon game and don’t care too much about it’s quality as long as it still has what they like. Although that doesn’t excuse all the bugs and stuff.

But with Nintendo disappearing, how does that benefit anyone? If you don’t like Nintendo games, you can already just not play them. People buying them buy them because they like them. Them disappearing doesn’t help people who do like Nintendo games, and it doesn’t help people who don’t like Nintendo games.

What? Instead of them acting bad and overprotective about their games, you’d rather the games didn’t exist at all? That doesn’t make sense. There are problems with the company, but they still make good games. It’s not like they mistreat their employees or anything (as far as I’m aware).

Question: What happens if they do disappear like you want? Nintendo fans stop getting the games they like… and how does this benefit everyone else?

Also saying someone deserves to be scammed because they are uninformed is weird. Some people just don’t read gaming discourse and reviews, they’re not obligated to. And some people actually like the games despite their flaws, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a better game.

Ugh it’s a goddamn hero shooter (they say it isn’t but it sure looks like it to me). What made splitgate good was the simplicity. I’ll still try this out, maybe they manage to make it good, but I don’t have my hopes up.

I agree I always get cramps whenever I play mario kart in handheld. That’s why I buy as many of my games as I can on the Steam Deck instead.

It’s not about worrying that I won’t be able to do stuff again, just the existence of the ever-looming timer is stressful. And you have to water your crops every morning, and harvest them when they’re ready. You can only plant certain crops in certain seasons. There are requests on the bulletin board that have time limits. Shops are only open on certain days, and I know if I don’t do that thing today I won’t be able to tomorrow because it will be closed. If the timer didn’t matter, then there wouldn’t be a timer.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Stardew Valley. But I stopped playing it, partly because I found it too stressful. Which isn’t great cause people always advertise it as this really relaxing game, and I’m sure it is for them, but I guess my brain just works differently. And I really want to like Stardew Valley more, I want to be able to play it and relax.

I’m not even trying to minmax or anything, I try to take my time, but it doesn’t really work. I can’t just ignore the timer, cause then I’ll pass out and wake up with hardly any stamina.

Edit: Also “you can just focus on one thing” sure, but then what do I do for the rest of the day?

You just got lucky, I guess. Or maybe you don’t use the joycons as much? I had to send my joycons back because of drift 3 times. Joycons aren’t full on falling out, but one of them will come out without pressing the button. Kickstand is also pretty useless, falls out from a tiny bit of pressure.

Oh I agree. Maybe not toxic per se, but extremely out of touch. I think what happened is it just became a bigger echo chamber, because from the already echo chamber reddit, all the people who are the type to switch to the fediverse (privacy focused, foss lovers) are on lemmy, with their opinions being spouted back at them, so it feels like everyone agrees, when really they’re a minority.

The biggest differing opinion between reddit and lemmy that I see is lemmy’s insistence that absolutely everyone should switch to linux. Of course I saw that on reddit a bit too, but it always had some pushback.

And of course there’s also the ignorance of the fediverse’s problems. Like people just can’t comprehend why someone wouldn’t switch to Mastodon or Lemmy.

This doesn’t apply to all topics though. There is still some good discussion here. Sometimes it can be better than reddit.

What’s weird is I don’t experience this on hacker news. People seem to be a lot less out of touch, and have a wider variety of opinions. Not entirely sure why, maybe because it’s had time to mature?

Once Valve releases SteamOS for other devices, they will be so much better. Assuming they actually switch away from Windows.
