I don’t need any special advances in batteries, I just need “it’s possible to replace them” and “it’s possible to get them”.
The stable Steam Client is still a September build, even though the whole rest of the stable OS is dated to a few days ago.
The funny part is that you can hold down the … button, and see the new overlay which has the new recording shortcuts. They do not work.
I think the flatpak is still up.
Fuck Nintendo.
Sometimes when I go into Desktop Mode, X11 doesn’t have any screens. The deck just sits there with a black screen, until I ssh in and kill plasma
It is rare to see a game get this wrong, the last one I saw was a Borderlands. If you look at a game’s Steamdb cloud listing, they list Windows’s save location, and then Mac/Linux saves are expressed as a rewrite rule.
Cloud saves on PS are handled quite simply - if you didn’t pay for your very own PS Plus then go fuck yourself. I have lost dozens of Aloy hours on my brother’s PS4.
The existing buttons are made out of a plastic that wears well when rubbing against their contact-points in the case. The plastics are chosen to be compatible, self-lubricating and “not spalling or rubbing eachother to death”.
I doubt that these metalized buttons have been tested for their long-term wear characteristics.
Go to Desktop Mode, run Plasma Discover, get the Heroic flatpak, run Heroic, log into GoG there, install games.
Heroic is pretty damn good at doing the rest. It’ll install the Linux or Windows version of your games, it’ll add them to Steam, it’ll run them. Heroic will even give Steam some coverart for your games. (Many are missing the logo, tho. DeckyLoader +SteamGridDB plugin fixes that.)
Is it the same as “sometimes when I go to Desktop Mode undocked, KDE decides that I have zero screens” and I’m staring at blackness? I have to ssh in and shutdown to fix it.
Not reboot, shutdown. If I reboot, the next time I go into desktop mode I’ll get the same thing. I think there is some ring < 0 or EC shenanigans going on there.
I don’t think you can opt in, the Families beta isn’t on the deck yet.
Yeah, the problem is that there is a well-set standard for VRR on a regular DP connection, there’s a so-so standard for VRR on HDMI, but there isn’t a good standard for communicating VRR through an internal connection. The market is at a standstill with not enough tablet vendors asking for VRR, and neither the SoC vendors or the panel vendors want to be the first one to build only half of the solution. Apple or Samsung could build a full solution on their own and jumpstart that market, but can’t be arsed.

The main thing that a bad actor would gain is “being kicked off of the steam store”. The bigger threat would be if Gabe figures out which is the bad actor’s main account. Losing all their games would be pretty big blowback for such an attacker.
The problem is that SteamOS doesn’t have a whole lot of boot options besides “start up directly into Game Mode successfully”. If Steam chokes while ingesting any of its config or any metadata in your library, that’s the end of it. You can hold a button to wipe everything (the Playstation solution), or you can figure out how to boot a live-iso and fix “the problem”. Not everybody has the skills to fix stuff in Linux, heck not everybody has the ability to “boot up from a usb stick and have a working keyboard, using only one USB hole”.
Star Stuff : which is a very cute little programming-puzzle game. Light on the programming - you are heavily boxed into there only being one correct solution.
The Farmer Was Replaced : literally “Python the game”.
Veritus : the sequel to Prodigal. It’s weaker for lacking the whole adventure side of things, and no waifus 😭.
There is no guarantee that EA won’t change the deal after you’ve bought the game.
Ooh ooh better yet, open up a fullscreen browser with this…
With an OLED, staring at a fullscreen png that’s all black is the same as turning the screen off.
The “AI boom” means that Intel is going to take die space from the GPU and give it to an NPU. That’s how you get Windows 11®️ CoPilot™️ cetified.
Not a dumb question, I have seen my Deck carry some weird bugs across a reboot. I don’t even bother with the reboot command anymore, it takes about the same time to shut down and turn back on.
