2007, I think. I had recently moved and didn’t have internet hooked up yet, so I bought BioShock as a physical disc so that I wouldn’t have to wait. Imagine my frustration when I learned about the online-only authentication bullshit it used for DRM, so having the disc didn’t even matter; without Internet I couldn’t play the damn thing at all.

I bought GTA4 for like $8 during a Steam Sale shortly after it came out, back when Steam Sales were crazy good. An absolute steal for such a great game.

Hey, is it okay if there’s a place where we’re not being fucking advertised to all the time? Fuck off with this.

Yeah, I think we all had a similar preorder experience at one point or another. There’s just no compelling reason to preorder anymore.

No shame in it, it seemed impossible for them to fuck it up as spectacularly as they did.

I’m pretty sure they’re still the rage, if Ukraine/Russia is any indication.

Lol, oh no I forgot about GTFO. It looked neat, but goddamn was it hard to enjoy.
No, I was talking about the Unreal 5 asset flip game that was pulled from Steam after one day. The Day Before, maybe?

It sure did, bud. It sure did. 🥲

Satisfactory was in early access for years, as well, and while it wasn’t polished, it certainly wasn’t slapped together, even from early on. So I think there are probably lots of examples from each kind of developer. Like what was that open world multiplayer zombie game that was such a fiasco recently?

We all gotta learn somehow. Mine was Brink from back in the day.

Ah, you must be one of the lazies we’ve been warned about!

I wouldn’t feel bad about asking here rather than googling it yourself. I like the engagement, personally.

What’s with the voiceover?

Yay, another remaster.

I take it you’re not excited for the game. If they could deliver on all of their promises, do you think that you could find some part of it to like?

I think being on Lemmy is part of the issue. The Venn diagram of people who left Reddit for Lemmy and the people who support pie in the sky games like SC doesn’t have a whole lot of overlap in the middle, I wouldn’t think.
Anyway, any particular gameplay loop you’re excited for?
Didn’t most console games run at 30fps until recently, so effectively 30hz, right?
