Distrobox is pretty easy to setup. Then you can install what you need without touching the SteamOS install.

It doesn’t really make sense to target iOS 17 as the minimum supported version if you want people to test it. Normal users won’t run beta versions of iOS.
My understanding is that game mode and big picture more aren’t the same thing. Game mode is running Wayland and Gamescope, allowing you to get much better performance compared to desktop mode, which is still using Xorg with KDE.
