Think of LLMs like a stupid office worker. You wouldn’t rely on them to make critical decisions, but they’re valuable for tedious stuff.

For example, my calendar changed the way to enter new events breaking my workflow. Now I just type out a skeletal schedule and have LLM convert that into a .csv that I import.

I had a folder full of random stuff I’ve saved for years. Had a LLM organize and categorize it for me. I had to tweak the prompt enough that this was a medium difficulty task, but still way easier than doing it manually.

They won’t stop doing it. Think of how many live service games have failed. Are the investors going to stop drooling over that Fortnight $$? AAA game are made to please investors, not players.

Boiling everything down to econ101 serves to absolve the bad behavior or games companies as “rational actors” while placing the blame for shitty games practices on “stupid” gamers.

The things people didn’t like (it’s another crappy live service looter shooter) is the core of what they promised the investors. AAA game studios make games for investors, not players.

The games industry becomes much less frustrating and more comprehensible when you keep this fact in mind.

So people get toxic when you advertise misleadingly?

The whole online culture around gaming has been so thoroughly infiltrated by reactionaries, incels, and plain old misanthropes any developer can expect to be abused online by toxic gamers. Whether or not the grievances are genuine is beside the point.

I’m not criticizing you or defending this game, I’m just saying how fucked it is that gamers being abusive is normalized and expected.
