The community-build of Proton, GE-Proton, was updated with a new version that updates various upstream components and adds plenty of game fixes for Linux desktop and Steam Deck.

How do you install the latest proton on the deck? Is it done like on the desktop with protonup or terminal?

You can also add it as a “non-steam game” and run it without having to switch to desktop mode.

Thank you. Wine caller on decky loader is doing the job :)

I don’t use decky loader so dunno what Wine caller is, but assuming it runs protonupqt through wine, that’s def unnecessary (I guess it could work?). The app is linux native, so you don’t need a translation layer like wine.

Wine caller is a plugin on decky loader. There are no translation layers involved at all. It works in game mode without having to switch to desktop mode, that’s why I went with it. I’m familiar with protonup, I’ve been running Linux as my main machine for 7 years now, I’m just new the steam deck.

If you have Decky Loader set-up on your Deck, I might also recommend using the Wine Cellar plugin.

Thank you. I do have decky loader installed, but didn’t know about wine caller. Man, looks like there is a huge community behind the deck. I’m new to it. Just got mine like a week ago.

I think it’s just a part of the system updates

That’s true for normal Proton but GE is a third party version.
