I’d love suggestions for apps for note taking that comrades use, ideally just free/open source ones that work on multiple platforms and can sync between devices.

iOS or Android? For either Joplin is okay. Logseq is amazing but I mainly use it as a companion wiki app it’s not for personal life notes, for which I use Orgzly (android only, ios equivalent is beorg and idk how it works)

Joplin is on all platforms & has a low learning curve versus the other shit I mentioned, if you’re on Lemmy you are used to one flavor of Markdown, give that a go and see. Was my whole thing for a while. It has encrypted sync and stores all kinds of multimedia files, embedded internet image links if you want. Has cool plugins

Emacs scales up into writing applications and publishing papers while keeping your whole life automated so I recommend trying the orgmode apps but yeah no need probably

For food specifically I use Energize android app bc it’s very quick once you have lots of recipes and things saved

Honorable mention for the Arcane/Delta Chat Webxdc apps called TimeTracker & Realtime Editor which are stable software with test level features. somehow still gets regular use out of me due to it being truly instant + having a launcher shortcut & being able to have their own windows external to DC

Get syncthing, which works on every platform, and syncs folders.

Keep all your files in markdown, and use any markdown editor for desktop or mobile you like. Markor or Obsidian(not open source unfortunately) for android are good ones.
