A fun Mastodon thing I don’t think people realise - you can interact with Reddit style services like Lemmy without leaving Mastodon as it’s part of the Fediverse.
Eg I follow the @starfield community by following that user, new posts automatically appear in Mastodon feed, I can upvote by favouriting, and I view and reply to comments in the thread.
I’ve never signed up for Lemmy, here’s me posting from Ivory app via Mastodon.
And guess what, you just posted to the starfield community by mentioning it. Hello from Lemmy!
@MentalEdge ooops
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz Hello from my Firefish instance, how’s space?
Spacious.
Shame nothing works the other way around yet. The only option Lemmy seems to give is to DM a mastodon account & even that doesn’t seem to work (at least it didn’t for me).

@GossiTheDog @starfield unfortunately the interaction leaves a lot to be desired still. Hopefully lemmy and mast will learn to play nicer with each other in the future.
Somehow this doesn’t work for me. I have my own instance. I can display a community, follow it but I never get any updates afterwards. Is there something I’m supposed to configure ?
If you have Authorized Fetch turned on (or if you use something like GoToSocial which forces it on) this won’t work (as far as I’m aware anyway) as neither Lemmy nor Kbin support it completely.

@GossiTheDog @starfield Cool!!! I learned something new about the fediverse today.
Only app I have found so far that comes close to this (outside of Mastodon) is Memmy. It works great and searches communities from instances that are federated. So far no serious complaints and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
