Or is that too new of a title to expect to run on the Steam Deck?

The Game isn’t even out yet. Apart from that, who knows how much wiggle room on performance there will be by adjusting the settings.

I mean who ever imagined that Cyberpunk 2077 would be payable on the deck?

    But, let’s see.

Honestly, I’m expecting an optimisation disaster like what we’ve seen many times this year. I doubt it will run well on decently specced PCs (until the inevitable performance patches drop), let alone the Steam Deck.

Considering the fact that this title will be capped at 30 fps on Xbox Series X since the performance apparently is awful, you can expect it to run at maybe 10 FPS on steam deck.

I doubt it, Starfield is running on the same engine as Skyrim and Fallout 4 (Creation engine). My PC struggled with Fallout 4 already in some of the denser areas. I can’t imagine Starfield running well on any PC considering the scale and visual fidelity, let alone a Steam Deck.

But, let’s see when it comes out! Maybe we’ll be positively surprised. It really depends how much they manage to get out of their old Frankenstein engine.

It is pretty early to make good guesses about it, but I think it depends on how GPU heavy the game will be! If we can play around with resolutions, texture quality, etc it might manage to run at 30!

The Steam Deck is surprisingly close to a PS4 in performance, with a few architectural advantages like faster memory access. The Xbox Series S is about 3 to 4x more powerful, so if the Xbox struggles with a title, the Steam Deck willhave issues even running at lower resolutions.

I think it will eventually run fine, turning some settings down and possible locking it manually to 30fps or so. By eventually, I really only mean 2 weeks or so. Consider Elden Ring.

There are several months until the game is even out. It could run like crap now and be great at release or great now and crap at release. Only time will actually tell.

I’d imagine that getting it to run on deck will involve some major sacrifices to both resolution, and to things like draw distance that will push the CPU too hard. The problem with the deck for some AAA games is that it struggles to push both its CPU and GPU at the same time because they share a power budget.

Tod Howard mentioned in an interview with IGN that the game could run well above 30 on console for many areas, but they capped it at 30 because some areas (presumable the large cities) are much heavier. My guess is the game will run fine on deck at 540p 30 with low settings in many areas, but will be pretty rough in the larger cities. Who knows though, it may be much more scalable than they’ve let on with the minimum hardware requirements.

The other thing to keep in mind is that since it is still based on the Creation engine, there will surely be performance optimizing mods that remove ground clutter and other cosmetic assets to improve performance soon after launch.

My guess is broken at launch but gets there eventually. How long it takes to get there is most likely dependent on how broken it is on more common platforms i.e. consoles.

Taking into consideration the state of modern AAA gaming it will probanly have a 4090 and a i9 13900K as minimum requerments on launch. Maybe a few months after launch it will be fixed but day one performance will probably bo to low for the steam deck.

I think the developer or proton could optimize this otherwise I don’t thing it will work well. I have more faith in the opensource proton project than Bethesda (especially being under Microsoft now) to optimize.

    Edit: GamePass is an option.
